ABOUT ME

I am Avery Goldberg, a fourth year student studying aerospace engineering and minoring in data science at the University of Virginia (UVA). I am from Long Island, New York but love to travel and am great at establishing homes away from home (as I have at UVA)! I am an active member of UVA's solar car team and have a leadership position (and have held others in the past) in the Sigma Kappa sorority. I am pursuing engineering because I love to put things together, in the literal and figurative sense. I do, of course, relish the opportunity to put together a bookshelf or table, but my real drive for engineering comes from my love for problem solving. Give me the pieces (problems, questions, ideas) and I'll put it together (come up with a solution). In my free time, I love to read, play tennis, attend concerts, and spend time with my friends and family.

My passion lies with space, in the broadest sense. I find the idea of space exploration - whether it be by humans, telescopes, or any other means - enthralling. Since I was a child and went to my local air and space museum, I have been insatiably interested in space. During our long stay at home through COVID, I passed the time reading articles about updates on space exploration and research in space. While I hope to pursue a career in space, my aerospace interests are much more broad and my specific interest within the field is not set in stone. I am currently working on my minor in data science and have found that I very much enjoy working with statistics and analysis. However, as you can see from my project experience, I also have an affinity for design. I am eager to continue my studies this year and get more experience with both. I look forward to doing this further with my career once I graduate.
